I just like to write. It clarifies my thoughts, occupies my hands, and aids my memory a great deal. I’ve been blogging on and off since the 1990s, through Tripod, Live Journal, Blogger, and of course with WordPress. I’m probably missing a few–I utterly failed to save my old content or passwords so all of my early blogging is lost to the void, as far as I know.
For the last several months I’ve had a book blog with my youngest sister. Darker Books is devoted to exactly what it sounds like: we review horror novels, pulp fiction, old mysteries, and whatever other dark-themed books we take a fancy to. My sister is much busier than I am, so that blog is about 20% her, 80% me. She lives really far away and collaborating is a fun way to bond despite the distance.
This blog, though, is all about me. I expect it will just be a journal, more or less, the way so many personal blogs and sites were before social media really took over. The last five years are so have been a lot of stress and turmoil, some communal (like Covid) and some personal (like my mom dying), but lately at least my personal life has calmed down a bit even if the larger world has not. I’m feeling my way toward a more tranquil (I hope) middle age that aligns better with what I value and enjoy, and as I said up top, I like writing.
I also like tea, cooking, knitting, crochet, witchcraft, and supporting small artists and crafters when I can. I’m sort of interested in frugality and simple living (but not minimalism because I love maximalist decor and I’m not that bothered by clutter). And I’m a voracious reader, mostly of darker books, but I’ll mostly be leaving that for, well, Darker Books. Everything else will probably be covered, as well as more that I haven’t thought of.
